Milwaukee County Sheriff Advises Residents to Get Gun Training

Milwaukee County Sheriff Advises Residents to Get Gun Training

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, Jr. recently gave area residents a reality check about local law enforcement's ability to protect them. In a public service radio ad, the county's top cop advises that personal security “is no longer a spectator sport. I need you in the game. But are you ready?” With tightened budgets and lowered police manpower, “simply calling 9-1-1 is no longer your best option,” Clarke says in a grim, no-nonsense voice. “You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed — or you can fight back. But are you prepared?”
In Clarke's mind, being prepared means knowing how to use a firearm if the need arises. “Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there,” he advises. “You have a duty to protect yourself and your family,” Clarke counsels county residents. “We're partners now. Can I count on you?”
The radio message, produce by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office and played on local stations such as talk radio WISN, prompted predictable outrage from liberal politicians and mouthpieces in the Milwaukee area. Mayor Tom Barrett dutifully sounded off, accusing Clarke of trying to imitate a Clint Eastwood police character. “Apparently Sheriff David Clarke is auditioning for the next Dirty Harry movie,” Barrett commented in his shoot-from-the-hip statement.
Clarke replied by telling Fox News that he had never seen a Dirty Harry movie, “but if that's all the mayor can come up with, that's pretty weak.” He added that Barrett obviously “doesn't have much to offer, and that's okay. My job is to protect the public.”
Clarke went on to explain that the Milwaukee area has suffered a rise in burglaries and robberies, and the ad was an attempt to help residents prepare for the possibility of being targeted by a violent criminal — with the police nowhere to be found. “I feel that personal safety is an individual responsibility,” the sheriff told Fox, “but people have to be prepared.... The police are not omnipresent. We can't be everywhere all the time. Sometimes we can't be there as fast as we'd like. Once the wolf is at the door — once the intruder is in your home, once a guy sticks a gun in your face on the street and demands your wallet or wants to take your car — 9-1-1 isn't going to help you. But there are some things that you can do in that situation to protect yourself, and it's my obligation to advise people how to do that.”

Teachers Flocking to Firearms Training Classes

Teachers Flocking to Firearms Training Classes
Two days after Christmas 200 school teachers in Salt Lake City, Utah, took a vacation day to take advantage of free training in the safe handling of firearms. Sponsored by the Utah Shooting Sports Council, the event usually attracts about 15 teachers. But more than 200 showed up this time, with many being turned away due to space limitations.
Clark Aposhian, head of the council, waived his usual $50 fee to honor the victims at Sandy Hook and to encourage participation by teachers who might face a similar threat in the future. Aposhian told NBC, "I genuinely felt depressed at how helpless those teachers were and those children were in Newton. It doesn't have to be that way."
His training gives teachers one more option in the event of a threat: “We’re not suggesting that teachers roam the halls” in search of armed intruders. “They should lock down the classroom. But a gun is one more option if [a] shooter breaks into the classroom.... This is where having a firearm would be a better choice than diving in front of the bullets to protect the kids.”
Upon completing the training, Kasey Hansen, a special ed teacher, told Reuters, “I feel like I would take a bullet for any student in the school.” But, "if we should ever face a shooter like the one in Connecticut, I’m fully prepared to respond with my firearm."
In Ohio the Buckeye Firearms Foundation received more than 400 applications from teachers and staff for its intensive three-day tactical defense course. As in Utah, the foundation is waiving its fee for the training, usually $1,000. Instead, the fee will be paid for by the foundation. Said Jim Irvine, the foundation’s president, told USA Today “What better use for an educational foundation than to help educators protect our children?”
In Broomfield, Colorado, a similar class sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO) was oversubscribed as wellDudley Brown, RMGO’s executive director, wrote that 300 teachers “braved snow … to attend the four hour course [which focused] on firearms safety and handling, and Colorado gun laws.” Brown said,
Colorado teachers have been breaking down our doors to receive firearms training…

Vast Majority of Gun Owners Would Defy Ban, Poll Shows

Vast Majority of Gun Owners Would Defy Ban, Poll Shows
If the government were to pass an unconstitutional law purporting to ban firearms, two thirds of Americans with guns in their household say they would defy the lawless legislation and refuse to comply, according to a recent poll conducted by Fox News. Even the majority of Democrat and liberal gun owners would refuse to surrender their weapons, the survey revealed. Most Americans also believe that more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens — not gun bans — would help reduce crime.

The Fox poll interviewed more than 1,000 registered voters in mid-January on a wide range of issues, most of which were related to firearms and the Second Amendment. According to the results, more than half of all respondents said there was at least one gun in their household — and the numbers have been steadily rising over previous years. Another five percent did not know whether there were guns in their home, or they were not willing to answer the question.

Among the 52 percent of respondents who admitted to having a gun in their household, the overwhelming majority said they would defy any “law” purporting to require the surrender of firearms. An astonishing two thirds said outright that they would defy the unconstitutional pretended act of legislation. Some 13 percent were not sure, and just 22 percent said they would give up their guns or submit.

Breaking down the numbers by political affiliation also provided some interesting insight into the attitudes of Americans. In all, 70 percent of Republicans and 68 percent of self-identified conservatives would refuse to hand over their weapons. More surprisingly, perhaps, were the figures for those on the left: According to the survey, more than half of Democrats and almost 60 percent of self-styled liberals would defy any potential gun ban.

'Strongest evidence yet to there being life on Mars' - Telegraph
Prof John Parnell, 55, has co-written a theory with Dr Joseph Michalski, a planetary geologist at the Natural History Museum, that suggests they have discovered the best signs of life in the huge McLaughlin Crater on the surface of Mars.
The document, published today in Nature Geoscience journal, describes how they assessed the crater, created by a meteorite which smashed into the surface of Mars, flinging up rocks from miles below.
The rocks appear to be made up of clays and minerals which have been altered by water - the essential element to support life.
Speaking from his laboratory at the University of Aberdeen, geochemist Prof Parnell said: "We could be so close to discovering if there is, or was, life on Mars.
"We know from studies that a substantial proportion of all life on Earth is also in the subsurface and by studying the McLaughlin Crater we can see similar conditions beneath the surface of Mars thanks to observations on the rocks brought up by the meteorite strike.

Bubbles start slowly and then accelerate to unsustainable highs (on large volume) that are largely created by greed and fear but not fundamental evaluations. Bubbles generally follow the “Pareto Principle” where approximately 80% of the price move occurs in the LAST 20% of the time.
Assuming the 80/20 “rule” and the phase 2 price change ratio of approximately 5, what could happen if gold and silver rise into another speculative bubble?

Silver began its uptrend in November 2001 at $4.01 and gold began its move in April 2001 at $255. Silver rallied to nearly $50 in 2011, and gold also rallied to a new high of about $1,900 in 2011. Assume that both surpass those highs about mid-2013 and accelerate into phase 2 thereafter. Using these assumptions, phase 1 for silver would measure 12.5 years and phase 2 could last until approximately late 2016 – early 2017. If we assume that phase 1 was a move from $4 to $50 and that represents 19% of the total move, the high could be around $250. The ratio of phase 2 ending price to beginning price would be 5:1 – reasonable.

The Taiwan dollar has come under strong pressure to depreciate amid a depreciation war among Asian currencies that was sparked by Japan's move to drive down the value of the yen, analysts said Monday.
The Taiwan dollar finished at 29.56 against the US dollar earlier in the day in the local foreign exchange market, the lowest level since Sept. 13. 2012. It dropped by NT$0.31, which marked the largest decrease since Sept. 23, 2011.
Due to continued outflow of foreign capital from Asian markets, regional currencies, such as the Chinese yuan, South Korean won and the Singapore dollar all weakened noticeably Monday, with the won dropping the most by 1.74%. The Taiwan dollar weakened by 1.05 % and the Singapore dollar by 0.73%. The yen fell by 0.18 %, while the renminbi depreciated by 0.04%.
Market dealers said the local currency will face growing pressure to devalue if the Japanese government led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe continues to drive down the value of the yen as part of its open- ended monetary easing policy.
Although some are concerned about the adverse impact of a weakening local currency on the domestic economy over the long term, the export-oriented hi-tech sector is enthusiastic about the trend.

India Cuts Rates for First Time in Nine Months

India Cuts Rates for First Time in Nine Months: ndia's central bank lowered its key policy rate as expected for the first time in nine months to support an economy set for its slowest growth in a decade, but signaled there was less room for aggressive cuts in future due to concerns over inflation.

The Reserve Bank of India cut the policy repo rate by 25 basis points to 7.75 percent, in line with a Reuters poll earlier this month.

Ex-Officer for C.I.A. Is Sentenced in Leak Case - NYTimes.com
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A former Central Intelligence Agency officer was sentenced on Friday to 30 months in prison for disclosing the identity of a covert agency officer to a freelance writer, representing the first time that a C.I.A. officer will serve prison time for disclosing classified information to the news media.

The sentencing in federal court here of John C. Kiriakou, 48, who served as an agency analyst and counterterrorism officer from 1990 to 2004, was the latest development in the Obama administration’s unprecedented crackdown on government leaks.
At the sentencing hearing, the judge overseeing the case, Leonie M. Brinkema of Federal District Court, said she would respect the terms of a plea agreement between prosecutors and Mr. Kiriakou, which called for him to serve a 30-month sentence. But she said, “I think 30 months is way too light.”
In October, Mr. Kiriakou pleaded guilty to one charge of violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act when he disclosed to a reporter the name of an agency officer who had been involved in the C.I.A.’s program to hold and interrogate detainees.

The Corbett Report | Power Behind the Throne: the Canadian Council of Chief Executives

The Corbett Report | Power Behind the Throne: the Canadian Council of Chief Executives
The Royal Institute of International Affairs in the UK. The Zionist organization of America in the US. In this series of Eyeopener reports, we have been looking at some of the less-scrutinized organizations of influence in world affairs, and this week we cast our eyes north of the border to an institution of considerable influence over the Canadian government that, like these other groups, few amongst the general population have ever heard of: the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
The Council describes itself as a “not-for-profit, non-partisan organization” populated by the CEOs of Canada’s largest corporations. The organization, again in its own words, “engage[s] in an active program of public policy research, consultation and advocacy.” In other words, it is a corporate lobby group, and as its members control $4.5 trillion in assets it has been one of the most powerful lobbies in Canada since its inception as the Business Council on National Issues in 1976. Earlier this week I had the chance to talk to Canadian researcher Morgan Duchesney of HoneyBadgerPress.ca about the Council, its influence, and its activities.
That the Council wields enormous power in the Canadian political arena is beyond dispute. Its membership roster is a Who’s Who of Canadian business and politics, including current President John Manley, who was named Time Canada’s “Newsmaker of the Year” in 2001 for his role in crafting cross-border anti-terrorism strategies with the first U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and served as Deputy Prime Minister in the Chretien cabinet from 2002 to 2003. Other members of the council are household names, if not personally than for the companies they helm: Air Canada, Bombardier, CN, Deloitte, Encana, GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, KPMG, Royal Bank of Canada, and many other firms at the heart of the Canadian economy.
Even amongst this list of business elite, one name in particular stands out: Desmarais. Both Paul Desmarais Jr. and his brother Andre, co-CEOs of Power Corporation, are members of the Council. The Desmarais are often called Canada’s Rockefellers for their enormous wealth, influence, and political power. Their company, Power Corp., has the dubious distinction of having direct ties to every Canadian Prime Minister of the past three decades.
Last year I talked to Andrew Gavin Marshall, host of the Empire, Power and People podcast here on BoilingFrogsPost.com, about the Desmarais and their central role in Canadian business and politics.
With the power of business dynasties like the Desmarais’ Power Corp. behind the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, its ability to shape, influence, and even dictate Canadian foreign in domestic policy is indisputable. But how exactly is this power and influence being wielded?
As Duchesney outlines in his article on the Council, the CCCE’s forerunner, the BCNI, was responsible for the highly influential 1986 Competition Act:
In 1985 the BCNI approached Andre Ouellette, Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, with an offer he didn’t refuse. BCNI CEO Thomas D’Aquino had, “…previously decided that Canada needed a new competition act.” D’Aquino spent $1 million to hire a team of 25 lawyers who by 1985, “…had produced a 236-page master plan. Incredibly, it became Canada’s new Competition Act, virtually word for word.”
The act contained no provisions for class-action lawsuits, left the crime of criminal conspiracy so vague as to be unprosecutable, and moved prosecutions under the act from the criminal to the civil courts.
More recently, though, the Council has been using its political leverage to further integration with the US in a NAFTA-on-steroids plan that sees regional government as the inevitable, desirable outcome. The Council was in fact responsible for launching the Security and Prosperity Partnership, a three-party dialogue between Canada, Mexico and the US that was officially launched in 2006, but began as an initiative originating with the Council in 2003. In 2007 The Corbett Report published internal documents from the SPP talks demonstrating that the North American Competitiveness Council, a type of trilateral CCCE representing the 50 largest North American corporations and including many of the Canadian Council’s members, was responsible for shaping and furthering the SPP talks.
The SPP eventually folded under intense criticism from all sides over its excessive secrecy, but far from retreating from the idea of North American regional government, the Council and its members still openly promote the destruction of national borders and the creation of a continental security perimeter and free trade zone as a desirable goal to strive toward.
Once again, exactly as with the Royal Instiute of International Affairs, we find an organization operating very much in the public spotlight that is capable of wielding inordinate control over national policy in the interest of the very few. No conspiracy theory is needed to explain the operations or influence of a group like the Canadian Council of Chief Executives because there is nothing theoretical about it: the Council uses its political and economic influence to advocate (and even draft) legislation favourable to their interests and agenda. This process is all the more insidious because it happens in the plain light of day, and yet still goes virtually unnoticed by the population of Canada.
The obvious next question is what can be done about the influence that groups like this wield over the political process. This is a question that will be taken up in a future installment of this series. For now, Canadians are encouraged to use the resources in this presentation as a starting point for their own research into the influence of the CCCE, and viewers around the world are encouraged to identify and delineate the similar organizations that are shaping the national policies in their own country.

Disaster Scenarios - Lawrence E. Joseph
Journalist and science consultant Lawrence E. Joseph discussed threats to life on Earth, including collapse of power grids from solar flares, the weakening of the magnetic field, and the solar system's move into a new area of space. Political, economic, and natural forces are all leading us into a "deadly convergence," he said. Specifically, a solar EMP blast could knock out electricity by permanently destroying transformers in the grid. If a blast like the Carrington Event of 1859 occurred again, we could see 100 million people out of electricity for a couple years, he cautioned.

Joseph advocated for the U.S. to install a kind of surge protection for the power grid-- a plan that the House has already approved, but may get stalled in the Senate because the measure is being attached to other issues. For more on this, see his article Short-Circuiting the Great American Blackout, to be published on the Huffington Post. There's increasing evidence that Earth's magnetic shield is going down, according to NASA research, he added.

He traveled to Siberia to interview a Russian scientist whose research indicates that our solar system is moving into an "interstellar energy cloud," which could cause cataclysmic and evolutionary changes on Earth. His findings were confirmed by a recent paper published in Nature, Joseph noted. He also spoke about his interviews with various shamans. A Guatemalan (Mayan) shaman told him that 2012 would herald the birth of a new era, and like new births there'd be "joy, blood, and pain." Siberian shamans don't see 2012 as a cataclysmic date for the world, but they do see it as "an avalanche date for collapse of the West," he

Obama Violated Constitution With Recess Appointments, Appeals Court Rules

Obama Violated Constitution With Recess Appointments, Appeals Court Rules: On Friday, a federal appeals court ruled that President Obama’s 2012 recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) were unconstitutional.

Specifically, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit held that the recess appointments violated the Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, the so-called Appointments Clause.

This article grants the president power to “nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law.”

Just over a year ago, President Obama used recess appointments to fill three seats on the National Labor Relations Board, arguing that the appointments were made in complete compliance with his Article II powers.

Drug-induced Murder: What Caused the Connecticut School Shootings?

Drug-induced Murder: What Caused the Connecticut School Shootings?: he Internet is rife with details about the firearms Adam Lanza used to kill 20 children and six adults before turning a handgun on himself at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14. But information about Lanza's medical history is scarce, feeding speculation that he may fit the profile of school shooters under the influence of psychotherapeutic medication.

"In virtually every mass school shooting during the past 15 years, the shooter has been on or in withdrawal from psychiatric drugs," writes Lawrence Hunter of the Social Security Institute. "Yet, federal and state governments continue to ignore the connection between psychiatric drugs and murderous violence, preferring instead to exploit these tragedies in an oppressive and unconstitutional power grab to snatch guns away from innocent, law-abiding people."

School shooters on psychotropic drugs include:

• Eric Harris, one of the assailants at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, in 1999, whose autopsy revealed he had a therapeutic level of the antidepressant Luvox in his system;

• Steve Kazmierczak, who killed six including himself at Northern Illinois University in 2008 while in withdrawal from the antidepressant Prozac;

Yes, Fellow Bubbas, They’re Coming for Your Guns

Yes, Fellow Bubbas, They’re Coming for Your Guns: n the ongoing fevered debate over gun control legislation, registration of firearms is a key flashpoint. “Progressives” insist that nothing could be more reasonable and benign than simply requiring every firearm and firearm owner to be registered with some government entity. Thus, they argue, bad guys could be screened out and guns used in crimes could be traced to help catch the criminals. They denounce as paranoid, delusional nonsense the concerns of gun owners that registration would lead to eventual confiscation.

In a “Fact Check” at Time.com intended to dismiss “The Gun Registry Red Herring,” Michael Scherer notes that President Obama’s “Now Is The Time” gun plan issued on January 16 does not call for a federal gun registry. However, the Time piece does acknowledge that in a 2001 interview Obama, then a state senator, stated: “I’ll continue to be in favor of handgun law registration requirements and licensing requirements for training.”

It is reasonable to believe that President Obama still holds to those views and is, at this point, taking a slower, more pragmatic, step-by-step approach to get momentum going in the direction of more expansive firearms restrictions.

Ron Paul Says Focus on Policy, Not Personality

Ron Paul Says Focus on Policy, Not Personality
Ron Paul’s sound advice may not be echoing off the walls of Congress anymore, but he continues to share it in interviews and opinion articles.
The latest example of the latter was published January 15 on thedailybell.com. In his take on President Obama’s choices for secretary of defense and director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Dr. Paul suggests that Americans should pay more attention to the policies than to the personalities.
“There is widespread belief that either or both of these nominees will have an immediate and profound effect on US policy,” Paul says. “However, this belief is really just a mistaken over-emphasis on personnel over policy. We should not forget that cabinet secretaries serve the president, and not the other way around.”
Regarding the president’s tapping of former Senator Chuck Hagel to head the Defense Department, Paul warns those desiring an end to the “foreign policy of endless war and empire overseas” that Hagel’s nomination isn’t the signal many are interpreting it to be.
Paul explains:
Hagel has shown some admirable willingness to advise caution overseas. He is seen as unenthusiastic over the prospects of a US war on Iran, which is certainly to be welcomed. But let us not forget that he did vote for the war against Iraq, he has expressed support for multi-lateral sanctions on Iran, and last year he wrote in the Washington Post that, on Iran, he supports "keeping all options on the table, including the use of military force."

Half-Million French Protest Country's Plan to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

Half-Million French Protest Country's Plan to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage: As France's socialist government gears up to push for the legalization of same-sex marriage, the French people are fighting back. On January 13 a crowd estimated at around 500,000 took to the streets surrounding Paris' Eiffel Tower to show their support for traditional marriage and their opposition to normalizing homosexual relationships as “marriage.”

Reuters News reported that the massive, half-million-strong crowd marched through the streets of Paris on Sunday, January 13, demanding that Socialist President Francois Hollande withdraw a “reform bill” that would legalize same-sex marriage and give homosexual couples adoption rights. Opponents are demanding a national debate on the issues.

Obama’s Trillion-Dollar Coin Exposes Federal Reserve Scam

Obama’s Trillion-Dollar Coin Exposes Federal Reserve Scam: Amid an ongoing debate over raising the debt ceiling and Congress’ seeming inability to rein in wild deficit spending, some proponents of even bigger government proposed the minting of a $1-trillion platinum coin to get around stubborn lawmakers seeking budget cuts. Seriously. Originally, the Obama administration refused to rule it out when asked by reporters, leaving analysts to speculate about whether or not they would really do it.

Then, suddenly, the privately owned Federal Reserve put its foot down and killed the scheme. In a joint statement issued with the U.S. Treasury, the central banking cartel, which holds a virtual monopoly on currency production, said no way. The Fed would not accept such a coin even if the federal government were to mint it. While never mentioned in the mainstream media, the implications of the whole episode are enormous.

Obama Unveils Assault on Gun Rights

Obama Unveils Assault on Gun Rights: Using young children as cheap propaganda props, President Obama unveiled his deeply controversial anti-gun proposals on Wednesday amid a series of false claims about having public opinion on his side. Among the most extreme, aside from some two dozen executive decrees he signed, was the announcement that the administration would push for an even more draconian so-called “Assault Weapons Ban” purporting to criminalize popular semi-automatic firearms. Restrictions on magazine capacity as well as mandatory “universal background checks” that could obliterate gun shows and private firearm sales are also at the top of the agenda.

Aging Outright Reversed for First Time

The present reality regarding telomere therapies is one of surprising outright success with zero side effects. All the reported cautions are completely untested and speculative. It is rubbish until shown otherwise by appropriate science.

Now we have a stunning age reversal in a nicely prepared animal model. This powerfully indicates that we are way closer to outright success than anyone ever imagined. This surely deserves a high five.

In the meantime individuals are out self testing the protocol at serious expense and with little reporting underway. I would like to see more and would welcome reports from users on my blog to assist others.

I included a second item that introduces some current efforts toward providing this technology without a pill.

Harvard scientists reverse the ageing process in mice – now for humans

Harvard scientists were surprised that they saw a dramatic reversal, not just a slowing down, of the ageing in mice. Now they believe they might be able to regenerate human organs

When L. Neil Smith approached me about starting what is planned as an ongoing series on the impeachable offenses of the current president, my first response was "there aren't enough electrons in the Internet to contain them all." And I should commend to you the following books which explore this area in extreme detail:
David Limbaugh, Crimes against Liberty and The Great Destroyer;
Mark Levin, Liberty and Tyranny and Ameritopia;
Mark Steyn, After America;
Glenn Beck, Broke, The Original Arguments, Cowards, and the novel Agenda 21.

L. Neil Smith, Lever Action, the novel The Probability Broach, and virtually every word combination he has produced in the last thirty years.

Obama unveils gun-control proposals

01-16-2013  •  Washington Post
President Obama on Wednesday formally proposed the most expansive gun-control policies in generations and initiated 23 separate executive actions aimed at curbing what he called “the epidemic of gun violence in this country.” While no legislation can prevent every tragedy, he said in announcing the proposals, “if there is even one thing we can do to reduce this violence, if there’s even one life that can be saved, then we’ve got an obligation to try.”

Should big banks be broken up?

Former Citigroup CEO Sandy Weill’s call to break up the big banks adds him to a growing roster of former financial giant executives who suddenly are embracing  one of the core tenets of  Glass-Steagall. Mr. Weill said on CNBC Wednesday that the nation’s biggest banks should be separated, with investment banks free to take risk and deposit holders going back to old-fashioned lending. Coming from the man whose signature accomplishment led to the repeal of the Depression-era law that separated the businesses, the comments marked a stunning turnaround.

Special Edition on the Liquidity Coverage Ratio

Special Edition on the Liquidity Coverage Ratio
On 6 January 2013, the Basel Committee finalised new, less onerous liquidity rules, for global banks and large investment firms. In unanimously endorsing minimum standards on the Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR), regulators have taken a significant step forward in implementing the Basel III framework. The LCR is the ratio of available liquid assets to the estimated net cash outflow over a 30-day period. It is designed to ensure short-term resilience against liquidity disruptions and reduce the need for banks’ to seek outside liquidity support during a crisis.

Key changes

The Basel Committee have delayed the implementation of LCR from 2015 to 2019. Banks will only need to meet 60% of the requirements by 2015—the previous start date—after which requirements will increase 10% each year until 2019.
The new rules expand the range of corporate debt securities that qualify as liquid to BBB-; a big change from its previous stance. As late as September the Basel Committee said that nothing less than AA- should be eligible. Some retail mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) will also count as being “high-quality liquid assets” (HQLAs) under the new regime. Previously, qualifying assets were mostly limited to cash, government debt, central bank reserves and high quality corporate bonds.
The ratio will be smaller under new rules. The new inflow/outflow rules assume a less pronounced withdrawal of bank deposits and a slower loss of income over the 30-day crisis period.

I just received my tax return for 2011 back from the IRS. It puzzles me!!!

They are questioning how many dependents I claimed.

I guess it was because of my response to the question: "List all dependents?"

I replied: "12 million illegal immigrants, 3 million crack heads,

6 million unemployed beneficiaries, 51 million welfare and food stamp recipients,

2 million inmates in over 243 prisons, half of Mexico,

and 535 elected officials in the U.S. House and Senate along with

a no-load family of 4 in the White House."

Evidently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.

First Shots Are Fired in Global 'Currency War'

First Shots Are Fired in Global 'Currency War'
aced with a stubbornly slow and uneven global economic recovery, more countries are likely to resort to cutting the value of their currencies in order to gain a competitive edge.
Japan has set the stage for a potential global currency war, announcing plans to create money and buy bonds as the government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe looks to stimulate the moribund growth pace. (Read More: Japan PM Says BOJ Must Set 2% Medium-Term Inflation Goal)
Economists in turn are expecting others to follow that lead, setting off a battle that would benefit those that get out of the gate quickest but likely hamper the nascent global recovery and the relatively robust stock market.
While respective countries would have their own versions, the moves would follow three years of aggressive bond buying from the Federal Reserve as part of its $3 trillion quantitative easing program.
Though critics worry about the long-term consequences, the three rounds of QE have managed to keep the U.S. economy afloat and have boosted risk assets such as stocks and commodities.

No 'responsible' leader could ever leave EU, says Danny Alexander - Telegraph

No 'responsible' leader could ever leave EU, says Danny Alexander - Telegraph: Mr Alexander said Britain's national interest had to trump party political difficulties.

"I just think that any responsible British politician should not be contemplating British exit from the EU given how serious the consequences should be," he said.

"Of course there are difficulties on Europe in different political parties," he told Sky News' Murnaghan programme. "But in the end it is our national interest, our national interest in terms of our economy and jobs and society that has to come first in any approach."

Earlier this week George Osborne issued an ultimatum to the European Union, saying it “must change” in order to avoid a British exit.

“I very much hope that Britain remains a member of the EU,” the Chancellor told Germany's Die Welt . “But in order that we can remain in the European Union, the EU must change.

US publicly voices concerns over Britain leaving EU - Telegraph

US publicly voices concerns over Britain leaving EU - Telegraph: Philip Gordon, the US assistant secretary responsible for European affairs, said that Britain's membership of the EU was "in the American interest".

His remarks came as David Cameron prepares to deliver a speech on Europe later this month. The Prime Minister is expected to promise to renegotiate Britain’s membership and then put the new terms to a referendum. Many Conservatives, including some Cabinet ministers, believe that a ‘No’ vote would mean Britain leaving the EU, although Mr Cameron says he opposes an exit.

Mr Gordon, the senior US diplomat with direct responsibility for relations with the EU and its member states, said that it was for the "British government and the British people to define their relationship with the European Union".

Banks using Funding for Lending Scheme to 'rip off' customers - Telegraph

Banks using Funding for Lending Scheme to 'rip off' customers - Telegraph: The claim comes after Andrew Bailey, head of prudential regulation at the Financial Services Authority, told MPs yesterday that interest rates for borrowers had not come down “to the same extent” as those paid on deposits. He said “the jury is still out” on whether the Funding for Lending Scheme (FLS) was delivering what it was set up for.

The FLS was established to provide banks with cheap state-backed funding on around £80bn of loans, reducing their costs by about £800m a year. The gains were supposed to be passed on to households and businesses in the form of cheaper and more available credit.

As Obama’s Anti-gun Agenda Emerges, Republican Threatens Impeachment: The White House task force led by Vice President Joe Biden (shown) unveiled some of its proposals to infringe on the right to keep and bear arms Tuesday, a plot that critics say would lay the framework for gun registration and eventual confiscation. Among other schemes, the Obama administration is plotting to adopt almost 20 “executive orders” on gun control while pushing for more draconian legislation, drawing a prompt and fierce rebuke from advocates of the Second Amendment. One Republican in Congress is even threatening to file articles of impeachment.
